Slot Trenching

Slot Trenching Application

Slot trenching is the process of digging narrow trenches for installing pipes, cables, or other underground utilities.  Hydro excavation provides a non-destructive, quick, and efficient method for slot trenching, even on frozen surfaces, making utility installation possible year-round in colder climates.

The accuracy and precision of hydro excavation makes it ideal for digging the narrow trenches needed for slot trenching and utility installation, without disturbing the surrounding soil.  This eliminates the potential for serious and costly damage often caused by traditional slot trenchers.

Hydro excavation makes it easy, safe, and practical to install sprinkler and irrigation systems, locate and expose underground utilities, and perform similar installations without the risk of damaging previously installed systems or lines.

Hydro excavation is a safer and more efficient alternative to conventional slot trenching methods via traditional mechanical or manual digging equipment.  It is ideal for digging trenches through easements and right-of-ways without damaging surrounding soil, trench system structure, or existing underground utilities.

For slot trenching, Super Products’ Mud Dog® Hydro Excavators use a unique combination of pressurized water and an industrial-strength vacuum, all combined in one self-contained, mobile unit.  Water is pressurized and injected into the ground through a handheld wand (much like a conventional pressure washer) to safely break up soil from the underground area.  The resulting slurry of displaced soil and water is then immediately vacuumed from the excavation through a large debris hose connected to a debris tank housed in the self-contained, mobile unit.

Hydro excavation makes it possible to dig the trench to specifications, minimizing the costs for backfill, concrete encasement, asphalt patching, and maintenance resulting from these measures.
